Checking Camps
A 3-day body-checking camp where players learn to give a hit — and take one — safely and with confidence. Body checking is a skill, and like any skill it has to be taught the right way: a deliberate walk → jog → game-speed progression where nobody gets thrown into the deep end.
Three days. Three focuses.
- Athletic stance & balance — head up
- Bracing & absorbing contact on the boards
- Taking an open-ice hit and keeping your feet
- Protecting the puck under pressure
- Angling — steer the carrier, take time & space
- Gap control and proper approach
- Contact through the core with leg drive
- Finishing checks legally & safely
- Reverse hits & puck protection on the wall
- Board pins and hit-checks
- Defensive checking — stick & body
- Small-area battles & game situations
Built on safety
Checking is taught in a controlled, progressive environment by experienced coaches, following USA Hockey standards. Every contact rep is supervised.
- Progression every drill: walk → jog → game speed
- Players matched by size for all contact
- Receive before you give — Day 1 is all protection
- No checking to the head, from behind, or charging
- Full gear & mouthguards required at all times
